‘Black Panther’ Will Not Be Directed by Ava DuVernay, Director Confirms


Well this is kind of a bummer. It’s been reported for some time that Marvel was considering Selma director Ava DuVernay to helm their Black Panther film (other reports suggested they were also considering her for Captain Marvel). DuVernay herself recently added to the speculation with a tweet referencing the superhero, while Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed that he had met with the director and would have an announcement by the end of July.
Well, we can stop holding our breath because DuVernay will not direct Black Panther after all.

The CW’s epic Legends of Tomorrow hasn’t even gone before cameras yet, though the initial teaser presentation certainly gave us a taste of the out-there action. Now, a new piece of concept art puts Firestorm at the center of a huge battle, while new showrunner Phil Klemmer talks the spinoff’s complicated relationship with time travel.

Hello Kitty Is Getting Her Very Own ‘Hello Kitty’ Movie in 2019


Although it was only a matter of time, it seems a bit crazy that it’s taken this long for Japanese mega-brand Sanrio to begin developing a Hello Kitty movie. Everyone’s favorite friend turned 40 last year and Sanrio recently established a U.S. subsidiary to globally expand the beloved brand (as if they need additional help). That subsidiary will be in charge of the upcoming Hello Kitty film, which has an incredibly large budget.

While doing press for Ant-Man (which screened to mixed-to-positive reviews), Feige spoke all about the first cinematic outing of Marvel’s Sorcerer Supreme with Birth Movies Death.

‘Tomb Raider’ Reboot Reportedly Seeking a Woman Director


Following the disappointment of Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life, it’s not as if anyone has particularly high expectations for a Tomb Raider reboot — it wouldn’t have to do too much to surpass the quality of the last film. But Warner Bros. and MGM are apparently working quite hard to get this one as right as possible, and a new report suggests that part of that plan includes hiring a woman to direct.
