Game of Thrones fans are no stranger to scrutinizing production and trafficking wild rumors, and HBO itself has discussed the possibility of a big-screen closer to its George R.R. Martin adaptation, but don’t start lining up just yet. Martin himself debunked the latest rumor, at least for the time being.
However many seasons Game of Thrones ends up lasting, a recent rumor from The Daily Star purportedly confirmed HBO’s intent to wrap its adaptation with a feature film, while Martin admitted he himself would not be involved. The report also claimed the film could cover an expansive history of Westeros, allowing several dead characters to return, but thankfully Martin himself took to his trusty LiveJournal to dispel reports (via TechInsider):
Yes, completely false. No one is working on any movie just now. And if there was a movie, it would not be about Robert’s Rebellion.
Amusingly, Martin notes the inquiry as “off-topic,” considering his past request that fans not ply him for answers to HBO’s Game of Thrones plans. Martin has previously spoken on the possibility of a movie, though HBO expressed reticence back in March, noting the trouble with asking viewers to switch mediums in order to conclude a story.
In the meantime, there’s plenty more Game of Thrones to speculate over and chase wild rumors of until 2016, but would a movie prove the most effective ending regardless?
