‘Lethal Weapon’ the Latest Movie to Become a TV Show

Another day, another classic film gets a TV reboot. (Sadly, I’ve written a variation of that sentence more than a few times this year.)
Since Lethal WeaponLethal Weapon 2Lethal Weapon 3 and Lethal Weapon 4 were seemingly not enough, a new series based on the original 1987 action movie starring Mel Gibson and Danny Glover is in the works at Fox, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The reboot is being developed by Warner Bros. TV for the network and will be written by Matt Miller ("Forever"). The put-pilot is sticking so close to the source material that it's not even changing the character names. Here’s the official logline, via Entertainment Weekly:

When Texas cop and former Navy SEAL Martin Riggs suffers the loss of his wife and baby, he moves to Los Angeles to start anew. There, he gets partnered with LAPD detective Roger Murtaugh, who, having recently suffered a “minor” heart attack, must avoid any stress in his life.

News of a Lethal Weapon TV series comes on the heels of a Watchmen series in the works with Zack Snyder and HBO. But the trend continues, including recent announcements of TV adaptations for Galaxy QuestThe Notebook, Training Day, Friday the 13th and so, so many more. There's also CBS's upcoming Rush Hour TV adaptation in addition to the network's Limitless series, which debuted last month. It's all headed to the small screen, whether you like it or not.
