‘Game of Thrones’ Season 6 Gets New Costume Designer

For five seasons now, Game of Thrones has labored tirelessly to imbue every one of its costumes with such elaborate detail as to enrich the world of Westeros, even as knives rip through every layer, but it seems a change is in store for Season 6. Game of Thrones’ Emmy-nominated costume designer has stepped down after five years, leaving the HBO epic to bring in a veteran Jurassic World designer in her place.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, two-time Game of Thrones Emmy-winner Michele Clapton opted to leave the series behind after the most recent run, saying “I feel like I’ve covered all bases now. It was really important to me, knowing that I was going to leave, to actually design costumes for each [geographic] area [of Westeros] so it’s complete. In my head, anyway, it’s a complete look I left.”
Game of Thrones Season 5 gave HBO audiences our first look at the Kingdom of Dorne, and while HBO will again shoot in Spain for Season 6, it remains unknown if we’ll return to any direct locations or characters of the locale. Still, with many characters and locations yet to explore, THR reports that April Ferry will take up after Clapton, having previously worked on everything from HBO’s Rome to Hemlock Grove and Jurassic World.
Says HBO of the guard-change:
There is so much left to do on the costume front, so many changes left for the characters and ground for them to cover, and we’re so grateful to have someone as brilliant as April onboard to create the costumes that tell the story’s final chapters.
Elsewhere of Game of Thrones Season 6, we know that casting has begun on a number of new roles, several of which suggest we’ll follow Samwell Tarly on his departure from the Night’s Watch, while others seemingly confirm we’ll pick up with George R.R. Martin’s discarded Iron Islands subplots. Meanwhile, debate continually rages as to whether Kit Harington’s Jon Snow will participate in Season 6, as while cast and crew deny it, story logistics seemingly confirm scenes set at The Wall in Season 6.
Game of Thrones’ sixth year will likely bring with it many more changes on the road through its final years, with cast announcements likely arriving at Comic-Con 2015, but what other turnover can we expect beyond its costume designer?
