‘Gotham’ Season 2 to Face Off Against Another Firefly

FOX’s Gotham has been reticent to use more notable Batman villains in recurring roles (instead making near everyone a series regular), but the FOX DC drama will burn one off for its its take on Firefly. The flaming Bat-baddie will blaze through Gotham for a short Season 2 arc, but is it another setup for decades down the line?

Per TVLine, Those Who Kill star Michelle Veintimilla will guest in the fifth and sixth episodes of Gotham Season 2 as a gender-flipped version of Batman villain Firefly, renamed Bridgit Pike from the comics’ traditional Garfield Lynns. So reads the full character description:
Enslaved by her brothers, a notorious gang of arsonists, Bridgit Pike is forced into the family business. When she catches the eye of Selina Kyle, the young Cat Woman and the soon-to-be-Firefly team up to put Bridgit’s firestarting skills to good use. But after a deadly encounter with the Pike Brothers, the meek Cinderella is transformed into a vengeful supervillain, hell bent on destroying those who have wronged her.
Notably, a more traditional iteration of Firefly appeared in the first season of Arrow, despite being more commonly known as a Batman villain. Firefly is also the second Batman villain to have appeared on Arrow first, following Michael Eklund’s Dollmaker in Season 2, re-envisioned on Gotham as Colm Feore’s Dr. Francis Dulmacher.
Elsewhere of Gotham Season 2, we know the second run will make series regulars of Drew Powell’s Butch Gilzean, Chris Chalk’s Lucius Fox, Nicholas D’Agosto’s Harvey Dent, and Morena Baccarin’s Dr. Leslie Thompkins. Producers will incorporate such Bat-baddies as Clayface, the Mad Hatter, Mr. Freeze, Hugo Strange, Tommy Elliot, and potentially even the Court of Owls, while early episodes will serve as a “pre-embryonic” (sigh) origin story for the Joker.
In addition to Natalie Alyn Lind’s Silver St. Cloud and True Detective star James Frain’s role as sinister philanthropist Theo Galavan, Gotham Season 2 will also feature Michael Chiklis as Captain Nathaniel Barnes, Jessica Lucas as Galavan’s sister (and future Tigress) Tabitha, along with Dustin Ybarra as a homicidal cannibal. Victoria Cartagena and Andrew Stewart-Jones have also been downgraded from their series regular roles of Renee Montoya and Crispus Allen
Gotham Season 2 will return on Mondays this fall, but take a look at the teaser below while we wait. Will Season 2 prove any more villainous with its own Firefly?
