‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ Set Photo Teases Storm Watching a Storm Over Cairo

X-Men: Apocalypse is spending some time shooting in Cairo (or whatever stands in for Cairo), which is not only the place where the big bad Apocalypse resides, but where Storm herself was raised. Director Bryan Singer previously teased Storm’s origin story in a recent set photo, and the latest update from set reiterates that idea with a photo of Storm gazing out at a storm over Cairo.

Singer posted the following photo to his Instagram page, teasing the use of real-time simulcam, which allows the director to combine filmed images — here, the real-time shot of Alexandra Shipp looking back over her shoulder and the shot of the storm clouds over the pyramids.

That’s fairly close to the completed shot, and it looks really great.
Oscar Isaac talked up Apocalypse a bit at Comic-Con revealing that his “followers” (aka the Four Horsemen) are Storm, Magneto, Psylocke and Angel / Archangel. That puts Storm in a very different position than we’re used to seeing, as she’s long been a protagonist in the X-Men films. It’s unclear if we’ll see her switch sides by the end of X-Men: Apocalypse, but I’m going to go ahead and assume that Singer wouldn’t keep Storm on the wrong side for too long.
X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters on May 27, 2016.
