2014 was a whirlwind year for Gaga, full of emotional highs and lows. It was a year that she opened up and allowed the world to know the real person behind the elaborate costumes and spectacular stage shows.
In the March 2014 issue of Harper’s Bazaar, Gaga discussed how she had developed and overcome an eating disorder. Unfortunately, she would run into a different kind of “eating disorder” controversy, when her 2014 South By Southwest performance featured a performance artist who vomited all over Gaga. Demi Lovato and others called Gaga out for glorifying bulimia.

Controversy followed Gaga into June, when she decided to pull her music video for the song “Do What U Want,” after claims that its director, Terry Richardson, had sexually assaulted models. The video also featured R.Kelly, a man who is no stranger to controversy. Gaga would reveal in an interview on The Howard Stern Show in Dec. 2014 that she herself was a victim of sexual assault.
In the second half of 2014, things started to look up for Gaga. She announced that she and legendary crooner, Tony Bennet, would release a duets album, Cheek to Cheek.  The two would also perform the classic “Winter Wonderland” at the Rockefeller Plaza tree lighting.
Gaga and Tony also sang “Cheek To Cheek” at the 2015 Grammy Awards on Feb. 8, during a night when they both would win the Grammy for Best Traditional Pop Vocals. A week later, Gaga would announce that she and longtime boyfriend, Taylor Kinney, are engaged!
At the 2015 Academy Awards, Gaga sang a medley of songs from The Sound Of Music as a tribute to the legendary musical — it solicited praise from audiences everywhere.
And lest we think that Gaga had forgotten her weirdness, it was announced that she would join the next season of the horror anthology series, American Horror Story.
Gaga will likely ride this wave of success into the rest of 2015. With an upcoming marriage, a highly-anticipated acting role and a rumored new album, this year looks to be even more of a ball than the last!
